Description
The FRM-24 Free Release Measurement System is an automated measurement system developed for the assessment of materials for gamma radionuclide activity prior to their release into the environment from nuclear facilities and radioactive waste management processes.
The FRM-24 assists in the detection of gamma-emitting radionuclides that may be present within materials designated for free release. Based on the measurement results, it can be evaluated whether the material can be released to the environment, directed for decontamination, or classified as radioactive waste.
The system comprises a loading platform with an integrated weighing system, a shielded measurement tunnel, four plastic scintillation detectors, a motorized conveyor belt, a control unit, and an unloading platform. The stainless steel inner surface and lead shielding provide a reliable and controlled structure during the measurement process.
Prior to measurement, the material type, packaging information, fill level, and radionuclide vector can be selected. The system measures the material weight and performs activity assessment according to static or dynamic measurement modes.
The FRM-24 provides automated decision support by evaluating measurement results such as total activity, total specific activity, and detector response distribution. This structure assists in making free release measurements more traceable and standardized.
